Faba bean genome sequence published in Nature

Updated: Apr 26, 2023

The successful assembly of the enormous Vicia faba genome was published by an international sequencing consortium in Nature in March 2023. ACGG participant Agnieszka Golicz was one of three lead authors. In cooperation with ACGG speaker Rod Snowdon, she sequenced and assembled the genome of the elite German faba bean cultivar Tiffany, and also contributed comparative genomic analysis between the genomes of Tiffany and the old Germany cultivar Hedin 2. The genome sequence represents a vital resource for genomics-based breeding and plays a key role in new ACGG research projects.
