2023 Tour de Faba

On a three-day tour to the University of Göttingen, breeding company NPZ Lembke and the Julius Kühn Institute, ACGG participants received detailed insight into faba bean breeding. Professor Wolfgang Link and his team in Göttingen provided a broad overview of faba bean breeding past, present and future , with many examples of the challenges involved in improving biotic and abiotic stress responses. At NPZ we learned how faba bean breeding works on a large scale in a leading breeding company, while our visit to our partner institution JKI gave our ACGG students at the two institutes a first opportunity to exchange and discuss their research projects and learn some of the intricacies of breeding for pathogen and pest resistance.
