The flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, spring is calling. So what could be a better time to lock up our IRTG students in Bavaria for 10 days to learn more about quantitative genetics? The GPZ and TUM, coordinated by Chris-Carolin Schön, organised an intensive course to deepen the knowledge of selection and breeding. The international speakers Bruce Walsh from the University of Arizona and Gustavo de los Campos from Michigan State University were two experts in statistics, quantitative genetics and software. The students learned a lot about the background of the different models, especially GBLUP, Bayesian, index selection, machine learning and many more. During the breaks they enjoyed walks along the Amersee lake, to Andechs Abbey and to Munich. All in all they had a great time and came back from beautiful Herrsching with a lot of knowledge and new ideas for their projects.
