JLU PhD student Mamunur Rashid is undertaking a research exchange at UQ from September to November 2025, under the supervision of Dr. Karen Massel, Research Fellow at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI). During his stay, Mamunur is focusing on CRISPR-Cas genome editing approaches and gaining hands-on experience in cloning techniques, tissue culture as well as transient and stable transformation strategies in various legume crops. His training also includes learning and applying different transformation techniques tailored for leguminous species, contributing to the development of efficient gene-editing and transformation systems for legumes at UQ. With support from IRTG 2843's equal opportunities funding, Mamunur's wife and baby daughter were also able to join him for his three-month research visit in Australia, where they are staying in UQ apartment facilities close to the St. Lucia campus. The visit was timed to enable Mamunur to participate in the 2025 Q-Retreat with other IRTG participants from Germany and Australia.
