Two years into our International Research Training Group (IRTG), our first two cohorts and associated students gathered to showcase their progress—and to refine their writing skills and manuscripts. Over the past five months, our students participated in intensive workshops focused on structuring, writing, and reviewing scientific manuscripts. To put their newfound knowledge to the test, we organized a three-day retreat/bootcamp at the Edersee.
In multiple sessions our students meet with our fabulous editors Benjamin Pommerrenig (JKI), Andreas Stahl (JKI), Sarah Schießl-Weidenweber (JLU) and Rod Snowdon (JLU) and their respective reviewers (the participating PhD students) to discuss and improve their manuscripts. Together, they engaged in discussions to strengthen their manuscripts. By the end, everyone left with fresh ideas and renewed motivation for their next writing session.
Beyond the manuscript workshops, the retreat featured creative and of course work-related activities designed to build essential skills. From “Adventure Gold” (sharpening writing precision) to tree-top walks (aiming for high impact), a zoo visit (practicing networking), and even a boat tour (symbolizing the journey to finding the right journal), each experience contributed to our growth as researchers.
A heartfelt thank you to the organizers—Jason, Andris, Rod, and Sarah—for their dedication, and congratulations to our hardworking PhD students for their commitment to advancing their manuscripts!
